Superb F. Barbidienne Gilt, Patinated Bronze Napoleon III Figural Table Lamp
About the Item
fine antique Napoleon III period signed F. Barbidienne gilt and patinated bronze, carved slate four light lamp with mythological creatures and classical Grecian maidens.
circa 1870
Centered by a superb quality patinated bronze vase with gilded highlights featuring marvelous mythological creatures as handles and a classical scene of maidens around an altar in the Ancient Greek tradition. Shaped black slate gilt bronze mounted base with beautifully detailed paw feet, laurel leaf border and fluted details. Ornate gilt bronze four light candelabra arms, electrified. The patina and gilding is in beautiful original condition.

Height: 27.75 inches to the top of the center light fixture
Diameter: 9.5 inches at the widest point of the candle arms
Base: 6.75 inches by 6.75 inches at the paw feet
Condition: Very good- age appropriate patina, very minor flakes to slate, electrified with some glue residue visible where the wiring connects with the bronze arms, wonderful original parcel gilt decoration.
Ferdinand Barbedienne ( 1810– 1892) produced some of the finest quality sculpture and lighting in the 19th century. Many of his pieces are part of museum collections worldwide.
