Tiffany Studios New York "Cherry Blossom" Table Lamp

About the Item

A Tiffany Studios New York "Cherry Blossom" glass and bronze table lamp. The shade features green branches with pink and white cherry blossoms. The tonality of the leaves ranges from dense, deep greens at the crown to lighter greens below. Much of the leaf glass is fibrillated, thus producing a delicate, verdant radiance. The predominantly white blossoms are lightest at the irregular lower border. Higher up, they are interspersed with pink flowers which proliferate as they approach the crown. The darker pink, red-speckled petals are made of a vividly transparent glass which is either knobby or rippled in texture. The flower centres are a transparent yellow. The shade sits atop a patinated bronze tree trunk base and is specially designed to fit it. The patinated bronze openwork crown lattice at the top of the shade resembles tree branches and is a direct extension of the base. Tiffany loved flowering trees. Flowering cherry trees grew on the grounds of his Laurelton Hall estate and appear as a motif in many of his windows and lamps. The spreading "Cherry Blossom" lamp is the most stunning and realistic tree shape that Tiffany ever produced. Its intricacy and delicacy imbue the piece with radiant beauty and give it marked significance within the world of Tiffany lamps, circa 1900.
