About the Item
A beautiful tall vintage colorful ceramic table lamp by Frederick Cooper. This beauty sits upon a wooden chinoiserie style base in a deep brown, with brass accent rim. The body is painted in blocked rectangular shapes in various hues of purple, blue, green, yellow, and pink. The top is capped with a dark wood cap which matches the color of the base. The harp and hardware is brass. A fantastic example of Frederick Cooper's craftsmanship.

Frederick Cooper
In the early 20th century, a Chicago artist named Frederick Cooper found himself captivated by home lighting and electric lamps, which were only common in approximately half of American households during the mid-1920s. Cooper, whose primary media were sculpture and painting, began to design stately, modern table lamps that mirrored the grandeur of the burgeoning architecture in the Windy City.
Cooper accrued some notoriety as a forward-looking lamp designer who combined materials like brass, ceramics, glass and wood to create exquisitely crafted lamps, particularly at a time when the striking chrome finishes and sharp geometric angles of Art Deco lighting had become immensely popular.
The Frederick Cooper Lamp Company was eventually sold to Benjamin Markle and Russian immigrant Leo Gershanov. Under their stewardship after the Second World War, the manufacturer flourished in Chicago and the local lighting artisans at Stiffel gained a formidable competitor. The timing was particularly ripe — the demand for table lamps to furnish new houses exploded, and the company built on Cooper’s artistic reputation and his signature styles.
Lighting designers at Frederick Cooper innovated in the years that followed, integrating alluring materials like glazed ceramics, painted porcelain, marble and jade. Apart from the classic Art Deco designs that defined the studio’s work in its early days, the company’s craftsmen experimented with Asian-inspired designs and produced floor lamps, wall lights, modernist chandeliers and other fixtures in varying furniture styles such as Neoclassical, Hollywood Regency and Empire.
Now owned by Wildwood, the Frederick Cooper Lamp Company has collaborated with many high-profile designers such as Larry Laslo, Mario Buatta and others on a range of lighting projects.

Ceramic Swan Animalia Bird Table Lamps in Pearl White, a Pair 1980s

Pair of two whimsical ceramic swan sculptural table lamps. Each ceramic lamp is identical and showcases a swan, in repose, looking downward with its wings outstretched and displayed. At the bottom of each swan, are curled waves resembling a pond or water feature as though the bird is floating on top of the water.
The color of these beautiful Animalia birds is in a pure white, with a pearlized pearlescent hue glazed on top.
The lamp reaches out from the top of each swan and includes a button switch. Each cord with plug is strung through the bottom and features a molded divot at the base for the cord to come out making the lamps sturdy and not resting on each cord.
Each lamp is affixed to a ceramic base in the same hue and glaze.

A dramatic pair such as these will add whimsy in any room. Our favorites, of course, would be the following:
Nursery: In a nod to Spring, and rebirth, this would be a symbolic and appropriate form of lighting for a nursery. Boy or girl, the white pair will be a subtle tribute to a new little one. Placed on either side of a dresser, or, as some new mothers do, on either side of a twin bed or daybed. Because sometimes it’s just easier, and for a better piece of mind, to sleep next to a new baby!
Child’s Room: Imagine a brightly lacquered French blue pair of nightstands on either side of a twin bed. chinoiserie wallpaper (Hello to all my Grand Millenials!) gracing the walls. And crisp white bedding and sheets in a matching pattern to the chintz wallpaper. Caprani flush mount lighting at the ceiling, and a fringe ottoman and matching chair at the side.
