Vintage Mid Century Teak and Opaline Glass Table Lamp

About the Item

A vintage teak and opaline glass table or floor lamp from Nissen of Denmark. The base is in turned teak and the glide in opaline glass. A great mid century feel. Rewired with a white twisted cloth flex and with a with inline on/off switch. Can be fitted with an EU UK or US plug. Double insulated where the cable is passed through the brass fittings. So no need for grounding. Please see the pictures. Responsible worldwide shipping available. After graduating in 1943, the third generation, Richard Nissen, started at the factory in Langagervej. Richard Nissen became operations manager in 1952, and in the 1950s he decisively changed the profile of the wooden goods factory in the direction of being a manufacturer of design objects. In 1955, Nissen began the production of applied art in collaboration with the sculptor Jens H. Quistgaard, and in 1957 he bought the factory from his father. Richard Nissen has said about the collaboration: "In 1955, DANSK Design came from New York to Langå to see our models. I had slightly changed one of Quistgaard's trays, – giving it a curved handle with steel dowels inside. When the people from DANSK Design saw it and hearing the price, they shouted to me, Richard – we are in business". Nissens Trævarefabrik came to play a major role in the Danish Design wave, and for a number of years Richard Nissen employed approx. 220 people; mostly local people from Langå and the surrounding area. In 1970, however, internal discord arose in DANSK Design, and Richard Nissen broke off the collaboration the following year and continued on his own. Nissens Trævarefabrik was one of the world's largest manufacturers of applied art in the late 1970s, but the 1980s were a tough time for the factory, which in 1990 was sold to the Bodum group.

Condition:
Rewired. Wear consistent with age and use. No chips or cracks to the opaline glass globe But there is a slight scratch to the surface . Please see pictures. Quite normal for glass this age and not really noticeable.
