Antique 19th C. French Louis XIV Style Giltwood Wall Mirror, Carved Details

About the Item

At two meters (or over six and a half feet) tall, this beautifully carved Louis XIV style giltwood mirror is a dramatic reminder of how luxurious French chateaus and palaces of the 18th and 19th centuries could be. Set on the floor, mounted on the wall, or hung over a fireplace (provided you have the ceiling height) it will add a royal glow and illusion of depth to any space. Skillfully applied layers of gesso and gold leaf cover the symmetrically placed hand-carved floral, vegetal and architectural details, creating a sumptuous feast for the eyes. Some of the high spots of the carvings show rubs and scratches, natural for a piece of this age, otherwise the frame is in very good condition. The heavy mirror glass is in good shape, with only a few spots and no major losses.
