About the Item
An impressive and monumentally scaled pair of Italian 19th century Louis XVI st. Giltwood mirrors. Each exceptional mirror is raised by a pair of rectangular Giltwood blocks between a line of inverted moorish crenelations below a dentil and Rai-de-Coeur border which supports the frame. The intricately carved Giltwood frame is decorated at the bottom with a foliate listel border punctuated by rosettes, and accented on the vertical sides by berried vine borders with palmette corner reserves. The top continues the vine motif and is capped by a most impressive large capitol molding adorned with a coved palmette border.
