19th Century Louis XVI Giltwood Pier Mirror
About the Item
A magnificent and monumental neoclassical pier mirror from the Napoleon III era. The original Mercury glass plate is bordered by an elegant egg and dart molding with the top of the mirror marked by eared Greek architraves and a laurel branch-festooned crest with intertwined ribbons and a sunflower in the cartouche. Of outstanding quality and rare size. France c. 1850.

- Condition:Repaired: Small areas of restoration to the gesso and gilding with much of the original surviving intact and with a lovey patina. Rubbing and wear commensurate with the age of the piece. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading.
