About the Item
Ca. 1860. A large scale arch shaped mirror with an elaborate crest with a pair of putti flanking the center crest of a shell and acanthus scrolls. The putti recline and rest their legs on the decorated pedestal supports on the crest ends. The putti hold pendant garlands in their hands in front. Further details of leaves and buds decorate the background of the crest.
The arch shape with several surrounds with bead-and-reel, buds and leaf motifs. The top corners with garland swags and acanthus scrolls. Outer separate twisted stems support a pair of medallions. They are decorated with carved and gilt flowers in relief and framed by leaves. The angular shaped frame ends with acanthus scrolls and rosettes.
Dimensions: Height 93", width 70", depth top 10", depth side 3"
Condition: Restoration recommended There are losses to both medallion frames and one flower chipped on the right, crest with loss on the right and break on the left ends, crest terminal with loss to left acanthus scroll, losses to outer surround, slight mercury oxidation to mirror silver lower left corner all mentioned for accuracy as the Mirror presents exceptionally well.
