About the Item
A rare and exceptional early 19th century giltwood overmantle mirror of impressive proportions. The original bevelled and shaped mirror glass plate set within a finely hand carved moulded and pierced giltwood frame with additional mirror glass plate backed border. Profusely and intricately carved with stunning motif details in high relief, comprising of c-scrolls, flowerheads and scrolling foliate throughout. Surmounted with elaborate cartouche of centred scallop shell, feathering and stylised Prince of Wales feather. The apron with a further arrangement of scrolls and foliate flanking centred scallop shell.
