About the Item

19th Century, Italian Neoclassical Lacquered and Gilt Wood Console with Mirror Overall Dimensions: cm W 75 x H 259 x D 47 Console Dimensions: cm W 75 x D 47 x H 95.5 (clear height under the apron 73 cm); marble top W 70.5 x D 44 (marble depth with mirror placed 38 cm) Mirror Dimensions: cm W 72.5 x H 163.5 x D 5 This elegant console with mirror, finely carved, lacquered, and gilded wood, fully embodies the taste that emerged during the Neoclassical period in Naples, Italy. It was created in the early 19th century. The console features a rectangular white marble top. The apron below displays refined carvings with golden Neoclassical motifs in the shape of plants, set within elegant frames and reserves. At the center, a female face is carved, while large flowers are sculpted near the corners, enclosed in square frames. The golden upper frame is carved with acanthus leaf patterns. The four legs start with a quadrangular capital decorated with a golden bow, flanked by two conical, gilded sections with geometric carvings. The body of the legs is shaped like an inverted pyramid trunk, with phytomorphic carvings The mirror frame follows the same pattern of gilded reserves and frames as the console. The lower part features a faun’s head, while the sides are decorated with carvings resembling Neoclassical vases at the bottom, and composite ornaments with birds, garlands, and vegetal elements in the center, topped with phytomorphic decorations. Above the mirror, the larger upper frame displays a large classical vase with foliated and floral elements, from which two garlands supported by birds extend. The sides are adorned with phytomorphic carvings, and at the top, a woman’s head centers the decoration, echoing the design of the console’s apron. In important Italian palaces, consoles with mirrors were among the most sought-after furnishings, symbols of the patron’s wealth, meant to be displayed in large representative salons. This highly decorative furniture style remains striking to this day, contributing to the elegance and refinement of any space, whether it is modern or antique in style. Its particular and compact dimensions make it easily placed in an entryway or corridor, but also in a bedroom or salon, where it will add grace and luminosity through the mirror’s reflection, the light tones of the lacquer, and the sheen of the gilding. It is also possible to buy both the console and the mirror individually. A conservative restoration will soon be carried out.

18th Century, Pair of Italian Neoclassical Lacquered and Giltwood Consoles
Located in IT
18th century, pair of Italian neoclassical lacquered and giltwood consoles This pair of consoles was made in the second half of the 18th century in the neoclassical era, in Naples (Italy) The carved and lacquered wooden consoles are composed of two half-moon tops lacquered with fake jasper. The band below the floor is sculpted in the ways of Classic grooved friezes, lacquered with light color and gold. The four legs are also grooved lacquered and golden and end in quadrangular feet. These consoles are very elegant and refined for the simplicity of their line and color. Consoles with two shelves are also quite rare. These allow greater flexibility in their use: in fact, in the lower shelf it is possible to expose, for example, vases with flowers, porcelain, books or other decorative objects in addition to what is placed above or offend the ability to lighten the top floor from too many objects. For their small size and especially for the particular depth of the floors, very narrow, and for the distinctly decorative character, these consoles are easily inserted in any environment. They are in fact perfect in the entrances or in the corridors, in a living room or a study, exposed in pairs or individually. The light color also makes them pleasant next to antique and modern furniture.
