French trumeau mirror and baroque painting in a gilded frame

About the Item

Gorgeous and unique French trumeau, late 18th century, baroque. These mirrors were very characteristic for placing in the upper space of the fireplace, they usually had a top with some painting in the style of the time or panels carved in high relief with certain symbols such as musical instruments, floral bouquet or dove's nest. The entire piece is framed within a frame made of gilded and gilded wood. The glass is original. The painting reflects a rural and romantic scene with a couple as central characters in front of a house where a third character appears. The trees, the river, the atmosphere it captures is completely bucolic and rustic, recreating the rural scenes of the late 18th century. It is an exquisite and highly decorative piece, its elongated profile makes it a very unique trumeau! It has been acquired from an important private French collection
