About the Item

A beautiful possibly Swedish gilt wood baroque and original condition mirror of large proportions. The large mirror glass is original with faceted edges and has a beautiful color. The gilding is original and has a beautiful somewhat worn patina. Made around 1710-1720. It is rare to find a barock mirror of these proportions in such a good condition with the mirror glass also intact. All decoration is hand carved gilt wood. The style and era that goes by the name baroque came to the Nordic countries around 1650 and the Swedish baroque flourishes under the three kings Karl X Gustav, Karl XI and Karl XII who reign 1654–1718. The Swedish Baroque is largely influenced by German and Dutch styles. This piece would mix well both in a classical antique interior and a very modern interior.
