About the Item

Original hand carved and painted rococo altarpiece that has been converted into a stunning mirror. The elaborate carving includes a pair of putti holding a central crown with cross, additional flourishes and flowers. Please examine close up photos to appreciate the original hand-painted finish. Muted shades of yellow, green, and taupe are seen, in addition to highlights of blue and red seen in flowers and crown, etc. This altar piece was crafted in the mid 1700's, and shows age related cracks and wear commensurate with over 200 years of use. Note multiple cracks, wear/distress to painted finish, etc. Restored, this attractive mirror is in stable condition ready to be hung and enjoyed. At just under 5' tall, it is a truly one of a kind mirror. All scratches, cracks, dings, age related separation and distress/loss to painted finish are reflective of age and do not detract from the beauty nor function of this special find. Please refer to professional photos for clear understanding of color, condition, and details; photo lighting, individual monitor display and home lighting all impact how item is viewed. Photos are part of item description, please ask questions or request additional photos of specific areas if needed. Crafted in 17th century Spain circa 1670, or probably coming from a private chapel ceiling, the interesting mirror features six carved cherub head figures around the recessed frame, and embellished with high relief motifs in the corners including gargoyle, angel, grotesque and eagle sculptures. The octagonal mirror has the original mercury glass behind the original wood backing; the glass has visible wear spots which give lots of character to the very ancient piece. The Gothic mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use with the original patinated polychrome and green finish with gilt accents around the frame. Place this old antique mirror...
