Antique 19th century round or circular gold leaf gilt French Rococo mirror
About the Item
This exquisite round mirror, gilt with leaf gold, was crafted in Southern France around 1870. Adorned with asymmetrical ornaments characteristic of the Rococo furniture style, it boasts intricate detailing including acanthus leaves, scrolls, shell motifs, flowers, and foliage. The entire mirror is lavishly gilded with leaf gold and then patinated, giving the gold a more natural and darker appearance. This patination creates subtle color variations, adding depth to the finish.
Featuring its original mirror glass with a beveled edge, the mirror plate is silver nitrate gilt, exhibiting numerous small spots. The mirror plate was carefully removed from the frame, softly cleaned in our studio, and securely reinstalled, and a pine wood backing was added for glass protection. The mirror is clean, flawless, and ready for use.
This mirror is not only a stunning decorative piece but also a functional addition to any space. Its timeless elegance and meticulous craftsmanship make it a standout feature in any home or establishment.
