Grand contemporary art brutalist mirror by Roos Schneijderberg

About the Item

This grand contemporary art brutalist mirror is an impressive centrepiece, well suited for a grand hotel lobby, office, or large mansion, because of its exceptional large size. The mirror is designed by female artist / designer Roos Schneijderberg. It is a one of a kind piece, called: I see my brokenness (to be whole) - also known as 'the beast inside needs its space'. The whimsical mirror is made of 6mm thick glass with an engraved symbolic crack running across it. A symbolic broken piece, is hung separately at the upper left side. One could say it resembles the ear of an abstract animal head - the beast. All specific angles of the mirror’s contour, and its crack are consciously arranged, point by point, to compose a perfect-imperfect balance between smoothness and sharpness, predictability and unpredictability. The mirror is, because of its size, quite bold, but its shape is refined, yet it has a kind of rawness to it. This brutalist piece, can be best installed high enough on a wall for an exceptional, impressive effect. Please keep in mind that the piece weighs about 100 kg. It must be mounted on a sufficiently large, and strong wall. It is not glued on the wall, but has stainless steel panels on the backside, to allow the mirror to hang freely. The work is extremely fragile, and should be hung with utmost care. Make sure the mirror hangs securely so spectators will not lean against it, this to prevent unwanted accidents. If one does choose to glue the mirror on the wall, it will be permanent. For advice or questions, please contact us through 1Dibs. We are happy to think along with you. Besides its impressive appearance, the work also has an underlying introspective meaning, making it not only a collectible design piece but a profound work of art. It invites the spectator to sincerely - without filter - face and recognise the imperfection within. Roos Schneijderberg is a Dutch multidisciplinary creative. Her work includes conceptual furniture, sculptures, mixed media objects, video installations, paintings, and scenery creations. Her style is sophisticated yet bold presented with some serious lightness. Introspection, femininity, and a refined abrasive interaction between imperfection and aestheticism are recurring themes in her oeuvre.
