Large Illuminated Mirror Igl for Hillebrand White Enameled Brass Mategot Style
About the Item
Large illuminated midcentury wall mirror designed by Ernest Igl for Hillebrand Leuchten, Germany 1950s which reminds very much the designs and the style of the french designer Mathieu Mategot or Jacques Biny. The high quality mirror has an off-white enameled and perforated metal frame with patinated brass details and dots in the mirror glass which when lit create a nice pattern to the wall and which just looks amazing. The wall mirror is 92 cm / 36.22 inches tall, the upper width is 47 cm / 18.50 inches, the lower width 38,5 cm / 15.16 inches and it is 10 cm / 3.94 inches deep. It takes six E27 standard screw bulbs to illuminate. Wiring is perfect which has lately been rewired, so fine working and ready to use. The mirror stays in very good original condition, little loss of the white paint mostly on the reverse, it presents beautifully.

Ernest Igl
Ernest Igl graduated from the Karlsbad Commercial Academy in 1938 and then attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and the Academy of Applied Arts in Munich. After the war, he worked as a draftsman and graphic artist in Munich. Igl enjoyed a high reputation as one of the first illustrators at major school book publishers and distinguished himself as an internationally sought-after industrial designer. He died in Davos in 2001.
