About

A rare and unique custom American black walnut King headboard by Phillip Lloyd Powell from the Phillip Lloyd Powell/Paul Evans Studio in New Hope, PA. The king sized headboard features Powell’s masterful chip carving technique which highlights the imperfections of the wood in order to realize it’s full beauty. As always the contour of the hand-chipping relates to the movement of the grain and works around the natural density patterns of the wood. The undulating carved accent panel features a leaf motif giving the headboard a graceful, sinuous feel while the gold leaf over red lacquer highlights the warmth of the wood’s natural color.

Two cantilevered nightstands float off either sides of the headboard. Each nightstand features a gold leaf backed open shelf with an accompanying drawer faced in matching gold leaf. Vintage cast iron nailheads, typical in Evans and Powell’s designs are seen on the surface of the tables.
