Italian Louis XVI bedside table or small sideboard, 1780

About the Item

This refined bedside table/small sideboard was made in Lombardy (Italy) in the neoclassical period, towards the end of the 18th century. The wooden structure is veneered and decorated with inlays in various essences. The front of the neoclassical cabinet is divided into an upper drawer and a lower door which opens concealing an internal compartment. Both the drawer and the door are inlaid in a herringbone pattern on the outside, then various essences follow one another until reaching the central frame also inlaid with light essences on a darker background. The sides of the eighteenth century bedside table are also inlaid. Here too we find foliated elements in the center typical of the neoclassical period bordered by inlays of other essences. The door and the upper drawer have small bronze handles. The uprights are decorated with inlays with classic natural elements. The truncated pyramidal legs are also inlaid. This cabinet, very refined and difficult to find on the antiques market due to its small size and four slender legs, can be displayed in the center of a small wall, between two sofas or armchairs, positioned in the bedroom or used as a small piece of furniture as a support or sideboard along a corridor, an entrance or a living room, pleasant both in combination with modern furnishings.Red marble top. Period: 18th century, 1780 Origin: Italy (Lombardy) Details: Quality The piece of furniture is finely inlaid in every part. The quality of the inlay and the rarity of the furniture lie mainly in the complexity of the inlay of the front and sides. Truncated-pyramidal legs This shape of the furniture leg is typical of Louis XVI furniture. In fact it is characterized by shapes with straight and not arched lines as in Louis XV. Authenticity The piece of furniture is completely intact and original from the 18th century. Its integrity is also visible from the back. *It should be noted that this work has not yet obtained the certificate of free export from Italy from the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage.
