1880 Belgian Leather Miners Hat

About the Item

This early miners hat was made from leather. They used to make it wet before putting the hat on and going into the mine. First of all to correct the fit of the hat and secondly because of the high temperatures down below. The triangular holes were cut in for ventilation. The hat has a great patina and overall look making it a nice decoration piece.
