1930s Architecture in Paris, French Book by Jean-Marc Labordiere, 2009

About the Item

L'Architecture des Années 30 a Paris (1930s Architecture in Paris), French book by Jean-Marc Larbodiere. The International Style comes from the Modern Movement (Bauhaus in Germany, Le Corbusier, and the Esprit Nouveau in France), an extension of Art Nouveau. This book invites the Parisian walker and tourists to recognize the buildings built in Paris by the greatest architects of the 1930s. After the excitement of the Roaring Twenties, France faced a major economic crisis and political and social uncertainty. Cultural life sees the emergence of mass culture. In architecture, modernism is spreading in society. In 1926, Le Corbusier set out the main points of a new architecture - the International Style. Rationalism and Functionalism are born on an invention that will change everything: reinforced concrete. The latter offers architects immense, hitherto unknown possibilities. The urban landscape is changing: the windows widen, the roofs become terraces, the elevators appear, as well as the courtyards and the gardens, while the dark corridors disappear. "Free" decorations no longer have their place. Light and sobriety are now the hallmarks of a style whose beauty only imposes itself through the harmony of geometric shapes and the happy balance of solids and voids. Discover through this work the great principles of modern architecture or International Style through its birth and evolutions. Find the precursors that are Henri Sauvage and Auguste Perret, the modern hardliners such as Le Corbusier, Mallet-Stevens, Pingusson, and Fisher, and then the temperate moderns like Roux-Spitz, Ginsberg, Sirvin, and Madeline. Dive into the heart of three major exhibition palaces in Paris: Palais de Chaillot, Palais de Tokyo, and Palais des Colonies. This is a beautiful coffee table art book. • Paris 1919 - 1929 Art and Culture, French Book by Vincent Bouvet, 2009
    By Modern History
    Located in Atlanta, GA
Paris 1919 - 1929 Art, Vie et Culture (art, life, and culture), French book by Vincent Bouvet et Gérad Durozoi, 2009. Paris was an international melting pot of arts and letters during the inter-war period. Between the parade of the Allies in 1919 and the one of the Germans in 1940 on the same Champs-Elysées, Paris experienced a fruitful cultural and intellectual period for 20 years, open to the avant-garde and faithful to the best of tradition. In the period between the two World Wars, France maintained its status as a significant economic, military, and colonial power. The fame of French culture is centralized in Paris, from which ideas and fashions radiate. Artists and creators come from all continents to the City of Light to draw their inspiration and gain recognition in the eyes of the world. During the "Roaring Twenties" that followed the euphoria of victory, Paris shone with a thousand lights. The "Lost Generation," the one of Hemingway and Fitzgerald, is the most significant foreign colonies that animate the nights of Paris who discovers jazz. But the bohemian lifestyle of Montparnasse attracts painters and sculptors from the four corners of the globe, such as Chagall, Giacometti, Miro, and Calder, to the studios, cafés, and bars, such as La Coupole. A chameleon genius, Picasso simultaneously experimented with all the paths, including those of nascent surrealism. Matisse, Léger open academies. The School of Paris brought together painters as varied as Soutine, Derain, Van Dongen, and Foujita. Abstract art set...

Paris 1925, French book by Armand Lanoux, published by Editions Robert Delpire, Paris in 1957. 1925, which only raised sarcasm yesterday, softened suddenly. We say retro for the fiftieth anniversary of the Decorative Arts. OK, go retro! Joséphine Baker, Charlot, la Violettera, bell bottoms, the threepenny franc, and Valentino reappear in our mythology. Einstein's surrealism, Picasso the Augustus and Cocteau the White Clown, Stravinsky, and Freud have not left her. With the lamé shirt...

Nouveaux Plaisirs d'Architectures (New Architectural Pleasures), French book published by The National Center of Art and Culture Georges Pompidou in Paris, 1985. Les pluralismes de la Creation en Europe et aux Etats-Unis depuis 1968 vus a travers les collections du Deutsches Architekturmuseum de Francfort. (The Pluralisms of Creation in Europe and the United States since 1968 seen through the collections of the Deutsches Architekturmuseum in Frankfurt.) This first edition of the book was published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name, co-produced with the Center de Création Industrielle and the Deutsches Architekturmuseum, presented from February 21 to April 22, 1985. This book takes up the outline of this exhibition, which presents a panorama of various architectural trends from 1968 to 1985 in Europe and the United States through the collections of the German Museum of Architecture in Frankfurt, inaugurated in 1984. It is also an extension of the Images et Imaginaires d'Architecture event presented at the Center Pompidou by the CCI in 1984. A set of two hundred original drawings, thirty-five models, and a few paintings and sculptures testify to a new plurality of research and the current proliferation of architectural creation. This panorama reflects through some forty projects (nearly half of which were finished), many recent currents, and not just postmodernism. The reader discovers, for example, representatives, side by side: - the rationalist movement, such as Giorgio Grassi...
