With a short View of the Life and Reign of Henry the Third . . . To which is annexed the French Charity.. PUBLISHER: London: for Henry Morlock, 1675. DESCRIPTION: SECOND EDITION. 1 vol., (iv)142pp., 7-1/16" x 4-5/8", with the engraved frontis of Cotton by T. Cross, complete, bound in 1/4 brown calf, blind tooled spine, gilt lettered red morocco spine label. CONDITION: Internally clean and bright, contemporary signature of John Werden (see D.N.B.) dated January 25, 1675/6 to upper edge of title-page, a VERY GOOD copy. REFERENCE: Wing C6480 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Cotton assembled one of the finest collections of manuscripts and printed books which he freely made available to scholars; both Raleigh and Bacon consulted his library. Envied by kings and politicians, his library was raided, sequestered, sealed and finally purchased by the nation from his grandson, after which a fire damaged many manuscripts. Today the collection is one of the many jewels of the British Library.
