Eisenhower, Dwight D. Crusade in Europe: A personal account of World War II. New York: Doubleday & Co., 1948. First edition signed by Eisenhower. Original dust jacket and housed in a custom clamshell. This first edition of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Crusade in Europe is signed and inscribed by Eisenhower. Boldly written in dark ink on the first half title page, inscription reads, “To Rosamond Berry - with best wishes, Dwight D. Eisenhower.” Many photos and maps adorn Eisenhower’s account throughout the work. Published in New York in 1948 by Doubleday & Co., the book retains the original dust jacket featuring Eisenhower’s portrait. The book is presented in a beautiful quarter leather dark blue archival clamshell. Eventually becoming the 34th president of the U.S., Dwight D. Eisenhower first played a major role in ensuring the Allied victory in WWII. He was appointed Supreme Commander of Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe. Most notably, Eisenhower planned and carried out both the successful Allied invasion of Normandy as well as the invasion of North Africa. In his wartime memoirs, Eisenhower tells the complete story of WWII as he witnessed it. The personal account combines Eisenhower’s voice and unique narrative with the details of strategies, battles, and the impactful decisions the U.S. made in one of history’s most tumultuous periods. Condition: Overall very good condition. The tan cloth boards are decorated with a facsimile signature of Eisenhower. Eisenhower’s signature on the half title page is in clear dark ink. The pages are bright and clean with a deckled fore edge. The book’s original dust jacket has some chips along the edges and one tear on the back. It has been put into a protective Mylar cover to prevent any further damage. The book is housed in a custom built quarter leather blue archival clamshell decorated with a photo of Eisenhower and his men set into a recess.
