Francis Bacon: Full Face and in Profile by Michel Leiris, (Book)

About the Item

Bacon is one of the most painterly artists of our time: his colour-drenched canvases are disturbing and stimulating. This volume comprises his series of portraits and self-portraits, the weirdly beautiful yet terrifying variations of Velazquez's Pope Innocent X, the painfully moving Crucifixion, the enigmatic figure studies and twelve gatefolds of the powerful triptychs. The 240 painting were selected by the artist himself and he was closely involved with every aspect of their reproduction. Bacon's work figure prominently in all major collections of twentieth century art, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, D. C,; and the Tate Gallery, London. Michel Leiris, the well-known French poet and writer, has prefaced the book with a perceptive essay on Bacon and his work. 271 pages. 1950 grams.

  • Bacon Moore: Flash and Bone by Richard Calvocoressi & Martin Harrison (Book)
    Located in North Yorkshire, GB
In their different mediums, Henry Moore (1898 1986) and Francis Bacon (1909 1992) created unforgettable images of the human figure. The distinctive visual languages that each artist developed over more than half a century were marked by a growing simplicity and monumentality of form. Their perspective differed: Moore clung to a belief in humanism, while Bacon espoused a post-humanist, nihilistic view of the world. In expressing their visions of humanity, the two artists had very different approaches: Bacon working from the outside in, disintegrating and dissolving form; Moore from the inside out, pushing anatomical structure to the surface. If Bacon s images suggest flux, chance, and the arbitrariness of existence, Moore s...

Francis Sultana Designs and Interiors By: Bronwyn Cosgrave Edited by Bronwyn Cosgrave Foreword by Yana Peel Contributors Gianluca Longo, Brook Mason This book, investigating Francis Sultana’s work as an interior designer, celebrates the 10th anniversary of his eponymous London studio and highlights an important professional achievement. Since 2015, Francis Sultana has ranked consecutively on the ‘AD100’. This exclusive annual list, published by the U.S. edition of Architectural Digest, features 100 of the world’s best architects and designers. Sultana’s palatial home at Albany, the Piccadilly landmark known to be London’s first apartment complex, and also his sixteenth-century palazzo in Malta – the country where he grew up and for which he now serves as an Ambassador of Culture – have also appeared on the covers of the world’s leading interior design magazines. The complete spectrum of Sultana’s work – from his professional beginnings, to his signature furniture collections plus the array of sumptuous domestic spaces he has masterminded for tastemakers and business titans in landmark buildings around the world – is chronicled herein by journalists who are recognized as design authorities. Bronwyn Cosgrave’s journalism about design, fashion and film has appeared in Architectural Digest, Harper’s Bazaar, The Hollywood Reporter, the New York Times, the international editions of Vanity Fair and Vogue as well as every important British newspaper.
