About the Item
Both couturiers by trade, Jacques Doucet (1853-1929) and Yves Saint Laurent (1936-2008) were also genius collectors. In search of a certain absolute, they both created "collection-spaces" in their homes, which formed new exhibitions, veritable artistic installations. Beauty creators, aesthetes, they each embodied "taste" in their time. Brancusi, Braque, Chirico, Gray, Legrain, Matisse, Picasso... many artists have successively lived in their apartment-museums on rue Saint-James and rue de Babylone. Intersections, encounters, confrontations, the art collections put together by Jacques Doucet and Yves Saint Laurent are, in many ways, "communicating vessels", and it is the mystery of this transmission that is at the heart of this book. Reproductions of prestigious works and views of the interiors and personal hangings of the two couturier-collectors allow you to dive into the intimacy of these apartments that have become legendary. 192 pages. 1010 grams.
