DESCRIPTION: ITALIAN EMBROIDERED BINDING BOUND FOR BENEDETTO LATILLA. 1 vol., (i)20pp(i), complete, 9-5/8" x 7-1/2", fine contemporary Italian embroidered binding, on gray silk, incorporating on both covers the arms of the Archbishop, in shades of red, green, blue, and gray thread, surrounded by wide and elaborate borders, surmounted by the Archbishops hat in black, multiple borders embroidered with gold thread, pale blue silk doublures, fine silk ties with gold brocaded ends, all edges gilt, housed in a 1/4 red morocco slipcase, ribbed gilt decorated spine.
CONDITION: Some mild foxing, hinges fine, lacking one tie. a VERY GOOD example of a contemporary embroidered Papal binding.
PROVENANCE: Swann Auctions, February, 1945.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This copy was specially bound for presentation to Benedetto (Benedicto) Latilla, General Abbot of the Lateran Regular Canons, to whom the book is dedicated, and whose arms are on both covers. See Anderson Galleries 1914 for a similarly bound dedication copy of "Disceptatio theologica de Traditione - 1753" also by Augustinus Montalti dedicated to Latilla.
