About the Item

Palladio, Veronese and Vittoria at Maser. Milan: Aldo Martello Editore, 1960. First edition with dust jacket and slip case, Italian text. 214 pp. An exceptional book on Villa Barbaro also know as Villa di Maser in the Veneto region of Northern Italy. It was designed and built by the Italian architect Andrea Palladio, with frescos by Paolo Veronese and sculptures by Alessandro Vittoria. It was built for Daniele Barbaro, Patriarch of Aquileia and ambassador to Queen Elizabeth I of England, and his brother Marcantonio an ambassador to King Charles IX of France. Palladio designed the villa with low lines extending into a large park, Veronese painted classical frescoes which included family members and their dog and Vittoria did stucco decoration of cherubs and sculptures of Greek gods. It became a World Heritage Site in 1996. NPT Books, a division of N.P.
