About the Item

It has a tear. Cameo with smooth silver frame that has a piece in the top so that it can be worn hanging on a cord, chain or similar. Made in shell (Cassius Cypraea; because of this, the piece can be included in what the 19th century people called "coral cameos"), presents in white on flesh tone a theme inspired by classical mythology: the Three Graces. Usually three (Aglaya, Eufrósine and Talia), the Cárites or Gracias were the goddesses of charm, beauty, fertility, human creativity, etc., and were a common theme already in ancient Roman art, but also the Renaissance, Baroque and neoclassicism. In the case of the present example, compare the relief and painting entitled "The Three Graces and Venus dancing before Mars", made by Antonio Cánova (the watercolor, considered a "sketch" and now in the Possagno Museum or Canovia Gipsoteca in Italy, it would be previous to the relief, dated in 1797, although other experts date it to 1799).
