About the Item
Jaques of London. Original Staunton limited edition chess set, no. 035184 (kings 9cm), in original box with key.
Staunton chess pieces are the most common and familiar pieces today. The pieces are named after the self-proclaimed world champion Howard Staunton who was an English Shakespearean scholar. The Staunton pieces are recognized as the standard for use in competition by the Chess governing body FIDE. This set is beautifully crafted, weighted, and has green baize bases. The rooks and knights have the stamp that Jaques is famous for. The king is also stamped on the base. This set comes in original mahogany box, as well as the original packing box. These seta are getting harder and harder to find. Please see photos for condition

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Very good condition except for one minor chip to pawn collar, see photo. The piece is in a bag and can be fixed. Although the key appears original for some reason it does not seem to lock the box.
