Trumpf Ball Machine, Lottery Machine, Early 20th Century

About the Item

Very rare lottery machine from the chocolate company Trumpf from the early 20th century. The German company Trumpf has a long company history, is mainly known for the production of inexpensive chocolate and is now based in Bergisch-Gladbach, Germany. The rectangular tabletop machine is made of sheet metal and still has the original spray paint from the 1930s. The base color is a signal red, the typical stenciled lettering is in white and partially highlighted in blue. On the front, in addition to the lettering, you'll find a slot for inserting money, two hand wheels, and two small circular viewing windows. On top of the box-shaped machine is an additional sheet metal frame, which holds the now faded paper game instructions. At the back, there is an additional wall mount. Here and there rusty little spots give the machine a great patina! Unfortunately, the manufacturer is unknown, but the machine is marked with D.R.P., which is the abbreviation for Deutsches Reichs Patent. Supposedly, this machine was banned in 1938 because it violated the gambling law. Before this ban, store owners had this colorful machine standing or hanging in their store and after inserting 10 pfennigs, the hand wheel was slowly turned and different colored balls could be won. For each color there was an individual profit, probably there were also rivets. After inserting the 10 pfennig, the coin and a ball appeared visibly in the two round windows. If you were satisfied with the color and the corresponding prize, the shopkeeper was asked to hand over the prize. If you were not satisfied or had a blank, you could press the lever and start a new game. With the second handwheel on the right side of the machine a woman's name could be selected, at the same time the balls were shuffled again. So this little history-steeped machine can do quite a lot and it also looks quite outstanding!
