King George III Signature

About the Item

A superb ink signature from celebrated British king George III (1738-1820). King George III reigned for just under 60 years between 1760 to 1820. His reign saw an expansion of the British Empire, as well as the loss of its North American colonies, and the defeat of Napoleon at the head of a resurgent France. Towards the end of his rule he endured a period of mental illness, with his son taking control as regent. George was a keen patron of science and agriculture, often portrayed as a man of the people in contrast to his flamboyant heir, George IV. A handsome ink signature, "George R,” on a 4 x 2 inch slip clipped from a document. In very good condition. The “R” in George’s signature denotes “Rex”, the Latin for “King”. Provenance: The S.E Waits Autograph Collection.

  • King George VI and Queen Elizabeth 1950 Signed Christmas Card
    Located in Jersey, GB
A majestic Royal family Christmas card signed by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1950 Albert Windsor married Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in 1923. He was the second in line to the throne, after his older brother, Edward. However, in 1936 Edward abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson. Albert was forced to take the throne in his place and was crowned George VI. His reign was defined by the second world war and the rapid decline of the British Empire that followed. Elizabeth and George’s eldest daughter, Elizabeth II, was Britain’s longest reigning monarch. This stunning Christmas card was sent out at Christmas in 1950, just two years before Elizabeth II's accession to the throne. Hugely scarce - one of just 7 known to exist. The card is dated and signed "1950, George R.I." and "Elizabeth R", with both signing boldly in black ink. The portrait on the card also features Princess Margaret and Princess Elizabeth, and depicts the family in highland dress. The card is signed by George VI and Queen Elizabeth on the left-hand inside panel, with the portrait on the right. This card measures approximately 7 x 6 inches when closed. The Christmas card also comes with superb provenance, having been originally presented to a valued employee at Buckingham Palace and passed down through his family for more than 60 years. A rare and beautiful piece of Royal memorabilia...
