An antique bronze scale model of an 18th century cannon on a hardwood base c1920

About the Item

This superb finely detailed model of an 18th century cannon is very well engineered. It has large distinctive front spoked wheels with studded traction around the outer rim and a similar small rear version to aid movement. The plain robust carriage supports the large decorative ring turned barrel which has a row of circular handles down each side for transporting or pulling. The model is displayed on a very pleasing stepped and moulded hardwood base which is mounted with a small group of cannon balls under the barrel and finished around the outer edge with shaped bronze pillars and a perimeter chain. This very fine model is in excellent original condition. The bronze has a greenish brown patina and the wooden base which appears to be made from solid figured teak has a rich colour and patination. English, circa 1920. Height 16.5cm x width 44cm x depth 19cm
