About the Item

Joyful and colorful, Van Gogh-esk work of religious art with maker's monogram. Because we are always looking for the rarest and most beautifully hand-crafted antiques, we 'regularly' also purchase items that we have never seen before and of which we cannot find others anywhere in the world. When it comes to this work of art we even are not entirely sure which techniques the artist used to create it. What we do know is that it are works of art like this that truly make us love our vocation. Also, because this here work of beauty ticks all the boxes. In this remarkable piece you can see the child Jesus blessing the land or maybe He is blessing the harvest. It is the sign of His right hand (with the index and middle finger sticking out) and the golden halo around His head that immediately told us what we were looking at (in terms of meaning). The purity (or naivity) of the design and the vibrant colors really make this antique like nothing we have ever seen, especially when it comes to works of religious art. The wooden and pure Art Deco-in-style base makes it look like this gem was created in the 1920 or 30's. Have you also noticed how the special blue color of the wooden base in which this art glass panel is placed is exactly the same as the blue sky in the enameled glass panel? The top of the wooden base also is exactly in line with that blue sky. The entire scene of this religious eyecatcher is hand-engraved into a pitch black glass 'panel' (it does not let any light through). The black lines that are still in the scene are the only thing left of the original black glass surface, it is almost like cloisonne. We have asked a glass specialist who had never seen anything like this either, but he assured us that this can only be the work of a master glass-artist, because this is a very rare and specialised, difficult to execute technique. With what we have told you so far, you can already guess that we also don't know who the artist was, but there must be someone out there who does. It is not easy to price a unique work of art of such rarity, quality, beauty and deeper meaning, but we think we have, again, priced it very fairly. Especially since pieces of much lesser quality and beauty (or meaning) often command much higher prices in galleries all around the world.
