18th Century Italian Gilt Wood Winged Angel Putto
About the Item
Charming 18th century Italian gilt wood putto with wings now mounted on a custom black steel base. Likely originally part of a relief panel, with the old hand wrought nails still visible on the back. Wonderful surface, the white of the the gesso layer showing through on the expressive face, the wings retaining much of the original gilding. Beautifully carved and now mounted in such a way as to make this both an appealing artifact, and a piece of modern sculpture.
