About the Item

Rare and beautifully handcrafted church relic with a chapel dome top. For the collectors of rare and interesting antiques in the Gothic style we also have this remarkable, hexagonal church lantern. We believe that it was initially made for a church or monastery, because this was not always an electric pendant. This Gothic Revival lantern was almost certainly used (for ceremonial purposes) in a house of prayer and this used to be (and could certainly again be) the missal or sanctuary lantern. You can clearly see the strong and heavy bronze handle, a glass panel 'door' through which the candle could be replaced and the three bronze missal bells underneath. This top quality crafted antique comes with several Gothic style elements and the six church window-like glass panels with the trefoil motifs on top are just some of them. With the light switched on these meaningful Gothic patterns can also be seen on the walls around this antique light. The stunning chapel dome too is a joy to behold. Also, because it is gilded on the inside (see image 15) and with the light switched on it makes this piece even more impressive. The bronze bells underneath are in superb condition also and they ring beautifully. We believe this piece was made electrical around 1920-1930 and the brass canopy too is of that period. It is recently rewired to the highest standard for safe and immediate usage in the USA as well. The brass patinated chain is of a more recent date, but it beautifully matches the color of this unique lantern pendant. In the right room or hallway, this rare and stylish antique will create an atmosphere that is second to none. However, we can also see a church or monastery, again, using this missal lantern for what it was initially made.
