About the Item

One of a kind, Gothic art stool and stand with a lid and compartment. If you are looking for good quality and one of a kind antiques in the Gothic Style then this striking stool with lid and compartment could be flying your way soon. This handcrafted and deeply hand carved Gothic stool with the folded book pages on all sides is as strong and stable as the day it left the artisan's studio and it can easily take a grown up weighing 200 pounds. This entirely handmade out of solid oak stool could be used as a magazine stand, but it could also be used as a hall bench and then the compartment under the lid could keep your gloves, your hat wear or your shawls. The top quality carved bookpage panels all around are Gothic works of art in their own right, but what makes them extra special are the small yet meaningful carvings above and below each folded book carving. The ones above depict a stylized, miniature chrystogram of the pelican feeding its young with its own blood. Below each deeply carved bookpage (and below for a reason) is a little demonic figure. These small yet unique and meaningful carvings ofcourse represent good and evil and they too make this Gothic stool stand out from every angle that you look at it. The lid comes with a pair of large and strong brass hinges and on top is the most beautifully aged leather seat with hand-crafted brass nails. Even with the few minor tears on the outsides of this perfectly patinated leather seat (see our close-up photos), you could not wish for a more stylish, comfortable and perfectly handcrafted Gothic stool.
