About the Item

Large antique crucifix with superb workmanship oak corpus of Christ, Mid 1800s. In the course of the past three years we have offered and sold a number of top-quality crafted church relics that were part of an extensive private collection. This one of a kind crucifix from the mid 1800s was part of that extensive private collection as well. In terms of the hand carved details, the quality and realism of the anatomy AND the patina, this Christ sculpture is one of the best we ever saw. Its large Size and single color oak are two other elements that make it stand out from any crucifix we ever saw. To us, the single color oak of both the cross and the corpus makes this moment / scene in which Jesus bowes His head even more serene and powerful. We believe that the century we are living in now, will be one of a spiritual revolution, because it is time we rise above the level of ego. Fighting and killing fellow human beings has brought us centuries of agony. It is time we (humans) grow to our full potential and learn to realize that we are all connected. We are all one and the teachings of Christ, we believe, will most certainly be a catalyst towards reaching higher levels of self-consciousness. At some point in time, the tip of the forefinger on one hand and the tip of the middle finger of the other hand got lost, but other than that this museum quality carved corpus of Christ is in superb condition.
