About the Item

Rare Alnmått (Cubit measure) made in Birch with a Noble Crown. From the Gustavian period of the late 1700s, roughly corresponding to the Louis XVI period in France, made in Sweden and dated to 1783. An instrument used for measuring, traditionally called Alnmått, consisting of curved work worked elements topped by a thyrsus (pinecone decor element). Features a crown of the nobility along the handle. Handle decorated with floral decorative schemes and inscribed with the year 1783, during the reign of the king Gustav III, as well as measurements in brass. A beautiful mix of traditional Swedish wood working with classical European decorative elements, reflecting a time of cultural blossoming in the Northern Kingdom. Wear consistent with age and use
