About the Item
Study camera with bellows in very good condition, two objectives and mounted on easel on casters for professional use that has crank for the adjustment of the camera in height and in diagonals. Made in wood and gold metal and in its color, it presents the plate of the manufacturer in the front. The professional photography and amateur photography company was founded in 1855 thanks to Besson, who, some time later, partnered with Gilles. Around 1870, this second family continued until, until 1900, "Guilles Fils" was succeeded by "Gilles E.", which was associated with Faller, giving rise to "GillesFaller", which would become in 1924 in Société Anonyme (D'Exploiation) des Anciens Établissements Guilles-Faller. The identification plate on the target of the chamber refers to this last stage, and places the headquarters at 31 Rue de Paris, where they would have already settled around 1900, but without mentioning the number 33 of the same (Which they would buy at the latest in 1926, as this new door appears in L'Industrieur de l'Industrie Photographique of that year). The present easel is very similar to that of figure 2 (page 2) of the 1928 house catalog (Bibliothèque Nationale Française, Paris) which was sold with the model "Chambre Gilles B 30x30" along with a series of
elements. All the models of the house allowed the free combination of shutters and also of objectives: note the two present, in good condition. Seeing the advertising referred to, there is a particularity: in this case the rectangular camera (18X24) needs a specific easel, which could be included in the lot by an extra in francs. Made in walnut finish, that the customer could choose between varnishing or varnishing, you can see the rails that allow the movement of the camera through the wheels on your right and the reinforced canvas bellows."
