This is a vintage stereoscope bar parallax. An English, brass scientific instrument for measuring depth in aerial photographs or maps, by JM Glauser & Sons of London, dating to the mid-20th century, circa 1950. Pleasingly complete midcentury instrument Displaying a desirable aged patina Quality brass and glass presenting well Wooden case with emerald green baize lining Adjustable Vernier to one end with a pair of glass slides Raised upon a bar platform, for situating above photographs Used by the military for gauging depth of land from aerial photography Replete with a pair of unwrapped spare glass slides, a measuring slide and pair of tools The case dressed with a pair of latches to each side and a brass lined lock, key absent Leather carry handle on loop hinges to center Brass plaque to fore stating the instrument name and engraved for a G. Rollins The bar parallax engraved with the maker's name, broadarrow 'pheon' and serial number 1520 This is a fascinating, well preserved vintage stereoscope bar parallax with high militaria appeal for the discerning collector and would make for an unusual desk ornament for those with an interest in scientific instruments.
