1950 Bob Simmons Balsa Longboard Replica Surfboard
About the Item
1950 Bob Simmons solid balsa wood longboard replica shaped in the 1990s. Made by former Yater Surfboards shaper Dan Highland. Features an early balsawood surfboard shape-design with early redwood single fin. Made using the 1950 Bob Simmons longboard specs taken from the original Simmons longboard on display at the California Surf Museum. “If anybody was ever to be credited with being the “Father of the Modern Surfboard”, I would say it would have to be Simmons. He changed board design in a shorter period of time than anybody has before or since.” -Rennie Yater, famed Santa Barbara surfer and shaper of Yater Surfboards. This remarkable collectors longboard was featured in a Japanese language surfboard collector hardcover book (photos included). A beautiful and historical piece of surfing history.
