About the Item
Vintage Hickory Golf Club, Powerful Mashie Niblick.
A fine and nicely weighted dot punched faced 'Powerful Mashie Niblick' by Tooley & Sons. A very unusual golf club head design with the weight at the top of the blade instead of the sole. The 'Power Mashie Niblick' has as thin a sole as possible, getting thicker as you go up the blade. It was covered under British design reg. No. 701352 issued to Arthur Tooley on October 22nd, 1923, although no patent was ever issued for this club. Powerful irons were produced as cleeks, irons, mashies, mashie niblicks, niblicks and jiggers. This club has a hickory shaft with polished leather grip, the rear of the club head marked 'Rustless, Hand Forged, Warranted, Grip (within a circle), Patent Applied For Reg No. 701352, A. Tooley & Sons, Makers, 40 Fetter Lane, London' with the words 'Forest Brand' under Tooley's cleek mark of a 'Tree'.
The measurements shown are the length of the shaft with hosel and the width and depth of the face.
A great golf club mashie niblick in good original condition. Very usable for modern hickory play or a great collectable. Approximate 35° loft & swing weight B9.
