Gordon & Smith Larry Gordon Model Longboard Surfboard #29/50

About the Item

Gordon & Smith Larry Gordon model longboard surfboard. Shaped by late Larry Gordon, (1939-2016). This board is serial #29 of 50 boards made to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the iconic G&S surfboards label. In 1961, Larry Gordon and Floyd Smith? ?partnered up to form Gordon and Smith surfboards in Southern California. They first worked out of a garage in pacific beach but it wasn't long before strong demand caused them to open their first shop, Gordon & Smith surfboards and skateboards. They were true pioneers of the industry, using polyurethane foam rather than solid wood to make their boards. Their foam surfboards helped to popularize the sport of surfing as wooden boards were far too heavy and? ?difficult to ride for the average person. Many top surfers and shapers collaborated with G&S and they remained one of the industry leaders from the mid-1960s to early 1980s.
