Historically Significant 1972 Lightning Bolt Surfboard Shaped by Gerry Lopez

Historically Significant early Lightning Bolt surfboard hand shaped in 1972 by Gerry Lopez. Beautiful banana yellow with sky blue Lightning Bolt design complimented by a matching blue/yellow glassed on single fin. One of the earliest Lightning Bolt surfboards shaped by Gerry Lopez. Rare Ala Moana model with diamond tail shape. Hand signed “LOPEZ” on the foam under the fiberglass. Features XL/wide Lightning Bolt design on the deck, a telltale indication of the earliest Lightning Bolt surfboards made. This incredible piece of surfing history was made several years before leg leashes were invented as shown by the rudimentary leash loop on the tail (this surface layer addition can easily be removed at buyers request). A truly historical example of one of the earliest Gerry Lopez shaped Lightning Bolts known to exist. This fine specimen remains in highly sought after original condition. A fully restored condition 1978 Gerry Lopez shaped Lightning Bolt surfboard was sold at auction in 2019 for $20,000 +15% buyers fee, final sale price of $23,000. Included with the sale is a personal hand written postcard signed by Gerry Lopez confirming “It’s definitely one of mine”. Proudly ride or display this significant and historical surfboard for all to admire. A seldom offered opportunity to own one of the very first Gerry Lopez shaped Lightning Bolts.
