Signed Cricket Bat, Kent, Middlesex, Hampshire & Leicestershire

About the Item

Autographed Cricket Bat, Chris Tavaré Benefit Year' 88. A Gray-Nicolls 'For Autographing Purposes Only' cricket bat with signatures from Kent, Middlesex, Hampshire & Leicestershire for Kent's Chris Tavaré Benefit Match, 1988. The willow cricket bat with a total of 49 original pen signatures on the front and back of the bat. The bat with decal 'Kent County Cricket Club, Chris Tavaré Benefit Year' 88, Gray-Nicolls'. Signatures are hard to decipher but some of the names we believe to be on the bat are Kent:- Tavaré, Cowdrey, Taylor, Marsh, Penn. Middlesex:- Butcher, Daniel, Slack, Brown, Fraser. Hampshire:- Smith, Parks, Cowley, Andrew. Leicestershire:- Gower, Willey, Whitticase. Christopher James Tavaré, (born 27 October 1954) was an English international cricketer who played in 31 Test matches and 29 One Day Internationals between 1980 and 1989. His style of play was characterised by long periods at the crease and a relatively slow rate of run-scoring. Everything about Chris Tavaré annoyed the Australians in the early 1980s, right down to his acute accent: he was the antithesis of their idea of a cricketer. An Oxford graduate, rather silent, effete-seeming, he simply refused to get out of their way and batted for hours, even days.
