Solheim Cup Matches U.S. Team Signed Pin Flag, USA 13 vs. EUROPE 15, Circa 2011

About the Item

Presented is an autographed collage celebrating the women golfers of the 2011 Solheim Cup U.S. team. The 12th Solheim Cup Matches were held September 23-25 in Ireland at Killeen Castle, just northwest of Dublin. The biennial matches are a three-day contest for professional female golfers pitting the 12 best players born in the United States against the 12 best players of European nationality. This is a beautifully framed 2011 Solheim Cup piece, featuring the commemorative pin flag signed by the entire U.S. team and captains, to include: Christina Kim, Angela Stanford, Paula Creamer, Juli Inkster, Brittany Lincicome, Cristie Kerr, Ryann O’Toole, Morgan Pressel, Rosie Jones, Sherri Steinhauser, Brittany Lang, Vicky Hurst, Stacey Lewis, and Michelle Wie. Entering the 2011 Cup, the U.S. team had won the three recent competitions, with Europe's last victory coming eight years earlier in 2003. After the first two days of team play, the competition was tied at 8 points each. Europe went 7–5 in singles on Sunday and regained the Cup, with a final score of 15–13. It was Europe's fourth win. CONDITION: White pin flag, printed with light grey swirling flourishes. The Solheim Cup logo, match year, and location are printed at center. Three brass grommets on the white hoist. Flag is signed by U.S. team members in various felt-tip ink pens, with black, blue, and red ink. Signatures are legible and have not bled or faded over time. Flag is archivally presented mounted floating in a custom-built wood and gold frame, on tan mat, with a U.S. team photograph at Killeen Castle mounted above it. Framed Dimensions: 38 ½”H x 29” W x 2 ½” D.

  • Vintage WWII U.S. Navy Patriotic Banner, "Welcome Firemen" Flag, circa 1941-1945
    Located in Colorado Springs, CO
This is a beautifully preserved WWII Navy aircraft carrier banner, emblazoned with a welcome for the ship's firemen. The banner is partially printed and has sewn elements. This is followed by a sewn yellow strip of contrasting fabric, printed with the word "FIREMEN" in blue. Thirteen white stars complete the design of this patriotic piece of WWII and Navy history. The banner retains its original white hoist, with two metal grommets on each side, for ease in display on the ship. Along the center of the hoist is the printed name of "J.S. Sullivan." "Naugatuck, Conn." is printed along the left and the size "2 x3 FT" is printed along the right. The flag maker, Annin, has sewn in its label, boasting "guaranteed defiance fast colors." CONDITION: Very good condition, considering age and past use. Partially printed and hand-sewn flag construction. Some toning to the white of the flag and along the top hoist. Original grommets at left and right of the hoist. The flag measures 36" X 22". Expertly framed on black linen with an antiqued black wood...
