Mid-1970s vintage Lightning Bolt surfboard made by Tom Parrish. Features bright yellow tint with double rail lightning bolt pinstripes. Beautiful red lightning bolt design with complimentary black shadow. A remarkable example of highly coveted 1970s Tom Parrish shaped Lighting Bolt surfboard.
In 1972, Gerry Lopez and Jack Shipley started the popular lightning bolt surfboards label in Honolulu, Hawaii. They designed high performance shortboards, a new development in the surfing world at the time. Lopez created the iconic lightning bolt jag symbol which graced the boards of all the best surfers of the day. It was a representation of energy - the energy of powerful Hawaiian surf. Gerry Lopez was by far the most filmed surfer of his generation and his smooth surfing style was featured in nearly every major surf film made in the 1970s.
