19th Century Pink Painted Porcelain Huqqa

$4,975.71

About

This beautiful porcelain huqqa (or hookah) is of Continental, possibly Russian, origin and was created in the late 19th Century. The item is finely painted and decorated with photo-realistic portraits of the Qajar kings of Persia, Naser al-Din Shah (reigned 1848-1896) and Mozaffar al-Din Shah (reigned 1896-1907), suggesting that the piece was made for the Persian market. The huqqa is of typical form, with a bell-shaped base, a knopped cylindrical stem and a U-shaped top. The huqqa is painted a strong pink colour and is encircled by white bands. The huqqa also features white medallions which are decorated with detailed half-length portraits of Naser al-Din Shah and Mozaffar al-Din Shah. These are bordered by paintings of stylised foliage and flowers, light blue geometric frames, orange fruits and yellow ribbon bows.
