Antique Silver Boot Vesta Case and Taper Holder

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Russian silver vesta case in the form of a boot, an addition to our diverse smoking related silverware collection. This exceptional antique silver vesta case has been realistically modelled in the form of a boot. The surface of this vesta is embellished with niello enamel ornamentation replicating the design to the boot and incorporating the Russian initials '????' to one side and '???' to the other. The upper portion of the boot is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover. This exceptional antique Russian silver vesta case accommodates a taper holder; accessible from the upper portion and heel of the boot. The underside of the boot features a serrated panel/match striker. The hallmarks struck to this antique Russian silver vesta case include: Maker's mark: Untraced Silver quality/purity mark: 84 (84 zolotniks) City Mark: Novocherkassk, Russia 84 zolotniki is equivalent to 875/1000 or .875 standard silver The assay/city mark for Novocherkassk (????????à???) is the double headed imperial halved above diagonal quarters with crossed spears & scepters, flags and castle; this represents derives from the Novocherkassk coat of arms. Condition This antique silver vesta case is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The niello enamel is in perfect condition. The Russian hallmarks to the surface of the body are clear and the standard hallmark to the interior of the cover is very clear.
