About the Item

Cigarette case designed by R. Blackinton Co. for the Clark Lighter Co. This is a fabulous a very rare cigarette case box, created in North Attleboro Massachusetts by the R. Blackinton Co. back in the 1926. The case has been crafted for the Clark Lighter Company in a rectangular shape with art deco patterns in solid .925/.999 sterling silver and gilt interiors. All surfaces are finished with high polish and engravings. The main lid of the box is decorated by engravings, of a pair o dogs in a landscape of a meadow with mountains at the back and dense vegetation. The figures of the dogs are accented with applications of black hot enamel in low relief. The box is fitted with a concealed push button and six barrels hinge with a spring for fastening. Weight: 131.70 Grams, (84.45 Dwt). Measurements: 120 mm by 78 mm by 13 mm (4.75 x 3.08 x 0.52 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark associated to R. Blackinton Co., the mark for the assay of the .925 silver, the four-digits serial numbers and signed, ".925 STERLING 2114". R. Blackinton Co. The R. Blackinton Company was co-founded by Ross Blackinton in North Attleboro, MA as the Civil War raged. It was a full silver house that also specialized in goldsmithing, engraving, enameling, metal spinning, and more. One of its earliest commissions was to supply flatware in the Marie Louise pattern to U.S. embassies around the world. Into the early 20th century, R. Blackinton & Company increased its lines to include, at various times, plated and silver jewelry, dresser ware, fancy table pieces, novelties, and 14 karat gold merchandise. In 1937, the company added an exclusive line of fine Sterling flatware and hollowware for retail jewelers. Eventually, the business was sold and Ross Blackinton, founded the New England Sterling in North Attleboro. Clark Lighter Company The Clark Lighter Company was based in Attleboro, MA made some of the most attractive and reliable lighters of the Art Deco period. The more you learn about their lighters the more you appreciate the innovative style and avant-garde designs that make Clark so desirable among collectors today. Clark produced lighters for less than a decade and yet it is not the company’s meteoric existence that draws collectors’ attention. It is the impressive high-quality that occasionally rivaled the best-known makers of luxury smoking accessories of the time. At its peak in 1928-1929, the quality of Clark had no rival in the United States. Their showroom was located on Fifth Ave., which gave them direct access to the New York City’s finest. On the guide to NYC’s companies selling smoking accessories Clark is listed as number one in the registry, which perhaps is not just a coincidence.
