Huge Snuff Box, tobacco, smoking, Ceramic, Figural, Fox Fairy Tale, End 19th C

About the Item

Extremly rare, extraordinary collector's item of exceptional size. This storage for snuff looks like metal, but is made of masterfully crafted ceramic. This object from the historism period around 1890, was made in Central Europe, due to the depicted theme - the mark on the bottom is not assinable. The structure is designed like a charming forest hut with a tower - with a door on the side where above "MALEPARTVS" can be read. This alludes to a German fable written in the 18th century (also edited in 1794 by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe), in which the badger visits the fox. This is exactly the scene that is masterfully depicted here in such detail. The roof with tower of the hut can be removed and used as a box. At the hand of the badger could be a restoration - we received this object in this condition. Measurements approx.: height 26 cm - 10,24 in, diameter 20 cm - 7,87 in The detailed workmanship, the literature reference, the sheer size and the depicted subject matter are special features that are difficult to find.
